The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - St. Paul District requires a contractor to perform two different types of concrete core sampling and testing at three lock & dam sites on the Upper Mississippi River.
At Lock & Dam 3 (Welch, MN) and Lock & Dam 4 (Alma, WI) the contractor will vertically drill a total of eight (8), 4-inch diameter core cylinders, between 5 and 10 ft in depth, from the lock chamber walls at each location. All samples will be tested for compressive strength. A full petrographic analysis will be conducted on two samples from each location. A full report will be made within 30 days of the field work.
At Lock & Dam 4 (Alma, WI) and Lock & Dam 6 (Trempealeau, WI) the contractor will investigate and evaluate the tensile strength between a prepared concrete surface and newly placed repaired concrete. A total of twelve samples will be taken - two sets of four (4) core samples from LD4, and one set of four (4) core samples from LD6. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) will be used to determine the location of installed reinforcement and/or steel mechanical anchors.
The tensile strength of the concrete will be dtermined and reported.
The Concrete Materials Engineer will be on site Monday, 12 December 2022.
